Homegrown animated films rise to command China’s big screen

A decade ago, Chinese animation was an afterthought, overshadowed by Hollywood and dismissed as mere children’s entertainment. Yet homegrown animated features now command nearly half the market, matching any studio for technical ambition and narrative daring, as evidenced by the latest summer release. Shen Li reports.
