China Media Group (CMG) has reached a cooperation agreement with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), with CMG President Shen Haixiong and WIPO Director General Daren Tang signing a letter of intent on cooperation on Thursday in Geneva.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of China’s cooperation with the WIPO. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the protection of intellectual property rights, and there is a noticeable increase in awareness and respect for intellectual property rights throughout the Chinese society, Shen said.

CMG actively promotes and supports the protection of intellectual property rights, he said, adding that CMG has pioneered a new path in the development, utilization, and protection of copyrights, becoming a significant driving force for the continued innovation and development of the network.

Shen said CMG is willing to establish a deep cooperative relationship with the WIPO and together, they will face the opportunities and challenges brought by the rapid development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence in the digital age.

“Through the power of media, we aim to contribute to the development of the global intellectual property governance system in a more just and equitable direction,” he said.

Tang expressed his gratitude to CMG for its efforts in promoting intellectual property protection. He said that China has a rich cultural history and abundant intellectual property resources.

“It is with great pleasure that we see CMG achieving remarkable results in the areas of copyright management in the digital age, copyright protection for events like the Olympics, and the development of a copyright cooperation ecosystem,” Tang said.

“We look forward to deepening our cooperation with CMG and working together to build open, inclusive, and balanced international intellectual property rules that better serve human well-being,” he said.
