1 dead, 153 injured after M6.3 quake strikes NW Afghanistan

One person was killed and 153 others injured after a magnitude-6.3 earthquake hit northwestern Afghanistan on Wednesday, local media reported.

The quake hit the west of Herat Province at 0041 GMT at a depth of 9 kilometers and was followed by a magnitude-5.0 earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Last Saturday, strong earthquakes shook part of western Afghanistan, claiming the lives of 2,445 people in Herat and neighboring provinces.
