China says it takes necessary measure to block Philippine vessel

China’s coast guard took necessary measures in accordance with the law to block and drive away a Philippine vessel near China’s Huangyan Island in the South China Sea, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

The ministry’s spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a regular press briefing in response to the Philippines’ accusation that China installed a “floating barrier” in the adjacent waters of Huangyan Island, preventing Philippine boats from entering and fishing in the area.

Huangyan Island is China’s inherent territory. China has sovereignty over it and its adjacent waters and has sovereign rights and jurisdiction over relevant waters, Wang stressed.

Wang noted that the vessel, which is an official one from the Philippines’ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, trespassed into the waters near Huangyan Island without the permission of the Chinese side.
