Israeli army says strikes two Syrian structures near border

Israel’s army said on Thursday it struck two Syrian military structures near the border for their violation of the 1974 ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

In a rare statement acknowledging an Israeli attack in Syria, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its tanks targeted the two temporary structures after troops identified them in the area of the security zone on Wednesday.

The military said the structures “constitute a clear violation of the 1974 United Nations-brokered Disengagement Agreement between Israel and Syria,” which established a ceasefire and separation of forces in the Golan Heights following the 1973 war between the two countries.

The Syrian side has not commented on the incident.

Israel has conducted hundreds of air strikes and bombardments on Syrian territory over the past decades since the start of the Syrian war. Their primary targets have been Iran-backed forces, Hezbollah fighters, and Syrian army positions.
