Participation of more than 869 athletes and officials from 38 countries demonstrates Pakistan’s capacity to host world-class sporting competitions
Lahore (Muhammad Iqbal Harper): Chairman of the Pakistan Taekwondo Union, Col. (R) Wasim Ahmed Janjua, has said that the 8th Treat World Taekwondo President’s Cup, Asian Region, Pakistan, has proved to be an important and historic sporting event. The participation of more than 869 athletes and officials from 38 countries is clear evidence that Pakistan has the capacity to successfully host international Taekwondo competitions of global standards.

In a statement, Col. (R) Wasim Ahmed Janjua said that hosting the President’s Cup not only provided Pakistani athletes with an opportunity to compete against talented athletes from around the world and gain valuable international-level experience, but also showcased Pakistan’s positive, peaceful and sports-friendly image to the world. He said the arrival of such a large number of foreign athletes, coaches and officials in Pakistan reflects the growing confidence of the international Taekwondo community in the country.

He said that hosting international sporting competitions in Pakistan is not merely a sporting activity but also an effective means of sports diplomacy. Such events bring athletes and sports organizations from different countries together on a common platform, creating new opportunities for people-to-people contacts, cultural exchange and improving Pakistan’s international image.
Col. (R) Wasim Janjua said that the Asian Taekwondo Union is providing strong support for the promotion of Taekwondo and the hosting of more international events in Pakistan. He said their objective is to organize as many international and regional Taekwondo competitions as possible in Pakistan so that Pakistani athletes can gain experience of high-level international competition at home rather than having to travel abroad.

An Important Opportunity for Young Talent
He said that continuously hosting international events could also play an important role in the grassroots development of Taekwondo in Pakistan. The arrival of international athletes gives local competitors an opportunity to observe and understand the latest trends in the sport, modern techniques, competitive standards and professional training at close range.
According to him, if such events are held on a regular basis and integrated with youth development, coaching, referee training, talent hunts and academy programs, Pakistan can produce even stronger Taekwondo athletes capable of competing at the international level in the future.
Institutional Cooperation Is Essential
The Chairman of the Pakistan Taekwondo Union said that effective cooperation among the Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Olympic Association, relevant federal and provincial institutions, the private sector and sports federations is essential for the sustained hosting of world-class sporting competitions in Pakistan.
He said that hosting international events requires further strengthening of modern sports facilities, better arrangements for athletes and officials, training programs, sponsorship and international-standard administrative capabilities. This would enable Pakistan to strengthen its position as a reliable international host not only for Taekwondo but also for other sports.

Sports Diplomacy and Pakistan’s Soft Image
International competitions in Olympic sports such as Taekwondo can serve as an important means of promoting Pakistan’s soft power and sports diplomacy. The arrival of young people and sports experts from different countries creates a direct and positive experience of Pakistan, which can help strengthen people-to-people relations beyond traditional diplomatic ties.
Col. (R) Wasim Janjua thanked the Asian Taekwondo Union, Pakistan Sports Board, Pakistan Olympic Association, sponsors, media and all relevant institutions, saying that the successful hosting of such major international events would not have been possible without their continued support.
Conclusion
The 8th Treat World Taekwondo President’s Cup has proved to be an important opportunity for Pakistan in the field of sports. The participation of more than 869 athletes and officials from 38 countries demonstrates that, with appropriate arrangements, institutional cooperation and sustained international engagement, Pakistan can become an effective hub for hosting major global sporting competitions.
In the future, if such events are linked with youth training, grassroots talent development and sports infrastructure, Taekwondo can become an effective platform for youth development, enhancing Pakistan’s international image and advancing the country’s sports diplomacy
