China’s seven-day National Day holiday marks the first long holiday since the opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link.

Opened on June 30, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link is a cross-sea passage connecting Shenzhen and Zhongshan in south China’s Guangdong Province.

According to the link’s WeChat account, on October 1, the total traffic hit 155,000 vehicles, marking a record high.

To ensure smooth travel during the holiday, over 170 personnel in road administration, monitoring, rescue, and maintenance, along with more than 100 traffic police personnel from Shenzhen and Zhongshan and nearly 100 special operation vehicles, were deployed at the link.

As a core transportation project in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the link spans about 24 kilometers and has been dubbed the “transportation backbone” of the region, playing a key role in connecting urban centers on either side of the Pearl River Estuary.

Since its opening, the link has cut travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan from 2 hours to just 30 minutes, further boosting integration within the Greater Bay Area. In the first 72 hours of operation, daily traffic volume surpassed 100,000 vehicles, accounting for a quarter of the daily traffic across the Pearl River.
