Seven killed after inflatable boat explodes off northeast China

Seven people were killed and one is still missing after an inflatable boat carrying 13 people exploded in waters off Huludao, in northeast China’s Liaoning Province, local authorities said.

Five others were taken to hospital with injuries, including two in serious condition.

A preliminary investigation found that fuel may have leaked from the boat’s engine, triggering an explosion when the engine was restarted. The exact cause remains under investigation.
