Pakistan Envoy to UN Asim Iftikhar Interacts with the PGA Fellows at UNHQ

UN/NY: Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, interacted with the PGA Fellows at @UNHQ on Thursday. He gave them an overview of the work of the Permanent Mission across the UN system and Pakistan’s priorities as a member of the UN Security Council, including Jammu & Kashmir, UN peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and the Middle East.

Ambassador Asim also shared Pakistan’s perspective on UN Security Council reform, underscoring the need for a more representative, democratic and accountable Council while explaining why expanding permanent membership would undermine these objectives.

He further discussed the challenges and opportunities facing multilateralism, emphasizing its continued relevance in advancing international peace, security and sustainable development.

Encouraging the next generation of diplomats, the Pakistan Permanent Representative shared practical reflections on navigating today’s complex diplomatic landscape and building successful careers in multilateral diplomacy.
