Beijing: Chinese capital, Beijing hosted the Global Sustainable Transport Forum under the theme, “Sustainable Transport: Connecting the World through Logistics”, for advancing sustainable transport and connectivity.

Hosted by the China’s Ministry of Transport, the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2024 on Sept 26, 2024, focused on creating a safe, efficient, and green transport system. The forum featured practical outcomes related to the UN’s 2030 Agenda and showcased China’s advancements in sustainable transport through technical tours.

The forum was held to foster global cooperation and promote the development of a safe, convenient, efficient, green, economical, inclusive and resilient transport system, the ministry added.

The forum featured multiple technical tours showcasing China’s innovative achievements in sustainable transport. These tours covered areas such as autonomous driving and smart logistics, rural roads and urban-rural passenger transport, as well as international airports and rail transit.

The event showcased initiatives and projects aimed for promoting dialogue and cooperation between China and the global community on sustainable development as well as showed transport models for advancing “energy+”, “smart+” and green development in roads, ports, airports, railways and ships.

The opening session of Global Forum was attended virtually as well as physically by the ministerial level delegates Pakistan and China, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Greece, Kuwait, Qatar, Kenya, Singapore, Tajikistan, Tanzania and Uzbekistan who expressed their views of sustainable transport and logistics. Deputy Prime Ministers of Nepal and Thailand also participated and addressed the Forum.

Transport leaders and policy makers while addressing at the two-day Global Sustainable Transport Forum emphasized that the improvement of the communication system not only to promote the green economy but also the green transportation culture in new era as per UN development agenda for green future.

The trade corridors of CPEC with the support of China are the guarantor of our strong infrastructure and better transport system and CPEC and Belt Road Initiative (BRI) projects will benefit both Pakistan and China, equally said Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan while addressing the opening session of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum 2024 in Beijing China.

The ongoing Global Forum in China will be beneficial for the participating countries, he noted.

He further said “our safe future lies in green energy and clean technology and we have to integrate our ports and highways keeping in mind the future requirements.”

Pakistan was on the threshold of the second phase of CPEC as well as speedy work on the 5 “Es” of Economic Zones, Export, Energy, Equity and Environment had also been launched, he added.

Also, Aleem Khan specially thanked China’s Transport Minister Li Xiaopeng and appreciated the holding of this Forum which provided the delegates of the participating countries with opportunities to benefit from each other’s experiences and to collaborate in future.

In discussion on green collaboration with China’s Minister for Transport Li Xiapeng, Minister expressed keen interest in joint ventures and working together on these important projects.

According to the details, Pakistan and China will work together for the completion of ML-1, M-6 and M-9 projects while the second phase of Karakoram Highway (KKH) and the construction of Kaghan-Naran, Jhal Khand, Babusar Top and Tunnel till KKH will be constructed.

Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan met with Tajik Minister Of Transport Azim Ibrahim on the sidelines of the Global Transport Forum 2024 in Beijing. In the meeting, the four-nation transit route agreement between China, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan was discussed.

He said, a Direct Trade Corridor from Pakistan to Tajikistan via China is under consideration. Pakistan is ready for the meeting of Joint Ministerial Committee and Joint Working Group. He said that due to the positive effects of the recent visit to Tajikistan, the direct flight has started.

Aleem Khan said Gwadar Port would be a milestone for Pakistan and Central Asian countries. He said that there was a great scope for improvement in the Communication sector as the dream of increased industrial development could be true with better road infrastructure.

The two-day forum was hosted by the Minister of Transport of China, Li Xiaopeng who in his address expressed special thanks to delegates attending the forum, and assured further increase in the development of mutual cooperation between China and global community in green and sustainable transportation for the improvement of highways and ports.
