Bitcoin rose 3.95 per cent to $31,187 at 17:05 GMT on Monday, adding $1,185 to its previous close.
Bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, is up 17.5 per cent from the year’s low of $26,533 on October 11.
Ether, the coin linked to the ethereum blockchain network, rose 1.39 per cent to $1,687.3 on Monday, adding $23.2 to its previous close.
The rise in bitcoin sent shares of cryptocurrency and blockchain-related companies such as Coinbase Global and Marathon Digital Holdings up from 6.5 per cent to 11.9 per cent.
