The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh accepted a proposal by Russian peacekeepers for a ceasefire from 0900 GMT on Wednesday with Azerbaijan after Baku launched its “anti-terrorist” operation on Tuesday.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry said Armenian forces in Nagorno-Karabakh had agreed to “lay down their weapons, abandon combat positions and military posts and completely disarm,” and all weapons and heavy equipment were being handed over to the Azerbaijani army.
Representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh forces and Azerbaijan will also meet in Yevlakh in Azerbaijan on Thursday, both parties confirmed on Wednesday.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan later told a national TV address that Armenia has taken note of the development but the country was not involved in preparing text of statement on ceasefire.
He also reiterated that Armenia did not have army in the region since August 2021.
Azerbaijan began its operation against Nagorno-Karabakh on Tuesday after some of its troops were killed in what Baku said were attacks from the mountainous region.
According to Armenia’s Armenpress news agency, at least 32 people were killed and over 200 wounded after Azerbaijan’s military operation.
