Interior Minister meets IAEA Director General
Manama, Dec. 6 (BNA): General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior, received Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The meeting was attended by Lieutenant-General Tariq Al Hassan, Chief of Public Security; Major-General Mohammed bin Daina, Director-General of Media and Security Culture; and Brigadier Ali Al Kubaisi, Director-General of Civil Defence.
The minister welcomed the IAEA Director General to Bahrain, who is attending the Manama Dialogue 2024. The minister highlighted the event as one of the leading international platforms for discussing security and political issues, bringing together government officials, strategic experts, and representatives of international organisations to address key challenges in regional and global security.
Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah underscored Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening international peace and security as a strategic priority. He highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Bahrain and the IAEA, noting that Bahrain was among the first countries to develop an action plan with the Agency’s International Emergency Centre. This collaboration contributed to setting a global standard for emergency preparedness and response. Furthermore, Bahrain is actively working on the development of an Arab roadmap for nuclear emergency preparedness and response.
The minister commended the IAEA’s significant role as an international hub for nuclear cooperation and its efforts to promote the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies.
