Cairo, Copenhagenseek to boost economic, investment co-operation

President, King participate in Egyptian-Danish trade forum

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Friday King Frederik X of Denmark on the first leg of his European tour that also includes visits to Norway and Ireland.

The president laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial of the Unknown Soldier. After that, President Sisi and King Frederik rode a horse-drawn coach, escorted by the Guard Hussar Regiment’s Mounted Squadron, to Amalienborg Palace (the official residence for the Danish royal family) in Copenhagen, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy said.

In his remarks, President Sisi expressed his gratitude to King Frederik X for the warm reception. He stressed the significance of the visit as the first by an Egyptian president to Denmark, voicing his hopes that it would strengthen relations between the two countries across various fields.

Egyptian-Danish trade forum

President Sisi and King Frederik X of Denmark participated on Friday in the Egyptian-Danish trade forum.

The forum brought together Danish and Egyptian companies and decision-makers. The two sides discussed means of boosting economic and investment co-operation between Cairo and Copenhagen.

During his state visit to Denmark, which started on Thursday, President Sisi is scheduled to have talks with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Speaker of the Folketing (President of parliament) SørenGade, the presidency spokesman said.

Furthermore, President Sisi will also take part in a series of meetings with senior Danish officials and businesspeople, witnessing the signing of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) across various collaborative domains.

Egypt is an important strategic partner for the EU and Denmark, including in the area of climate change. Danish-Egyptian ties extend back to 1922, and Cairo and Copenhagen also collaborated for a long time with a focus on young people and job creation in connection with the Danish-Arab Partnership programme.

After Denmark, President Sisi will travel to Norway and Ireland.

In Oslo, the capital of Norway, the president will convene with the Norwegian king, prime minister, president, and members of the Storting (Norwegian Parliament).

He is scheduled to meet with chairpersons of Norwegian companies operating in Egypt and witness the signing of co-operation agreements between the two countries.

Concluding his European tour in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, President Sisi will engage in discussions with the Irish president and prime minister to explore opportunities for strengthening co-operation and enhancing coordination on international issues and common crises.
