Bahrain National Museum to host Juan Garaizabal exhibition
Manama, Nov. 19 (BNA): The Bahrain National Museum, in collaboration with the RAK Art Foundation and the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), will host *Memories Carved in Steel: Echoes from Dilmun and Beyond*, an exhibition by renowned Spanish artist Juan Garaizabal.
Running from November 23 to May 23, 2025, the exhibition invites visitors to explore Garaizabal’s thought-provoking interpretation of time, space, and human history through his extraordinary sculptures and installations.
The exhibition will feature twelve large-scale outdoor sculptures, including two pieces specially commissioned for Manama, as well as ten intricate works on paper and five smaller sculptures displayed inside the museum. Garaizabal’s art uniquely combines architecture, memory, and sculpture, creating captivating monuments that revive the past. Central to the exhibition is his acclaimed piece, “The Door of Dilmun”, inspired by the ancient city of Dilmun, celebrated for its association with purity and eternal life.
Crafted from stainless steel and concrete, Garaizabal’s work evokes an ethereal quality, embodying sketches of the past that transcend time. The artist describes the piece as “a monument to the fleeting nature of human greatness, reminding us that even the most splendid civilisations are destined to fade.”
Visitors will also experience ten outdoor sculptures that blend seamlessly with Bahrain’s landscape, offering a unique interaction between art and the environment. The indoor section extends the narrative, showcasing detailed drawings and smaller sculptures that take guests on a reflective journey linking history with modernity.
Garaizabal’s sculptures have been exhibited in prestigious art venues worldwide, including a landmark installation at Art Basel in Switzerland, and the celebrated “Urban Memory Miami Havana’s Balcony”.
Beyond his international acclaim, Garaizabal is working on the International Centre for Nature and Contemporary Sculpture near Madrid, a project he envisions as his enduring legacy for future generations.
