Manama, Nov. 14 (BNA): Ghada Hameed Habib, Ombudswoman and Chairperson of the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission (PDRC), received members of the Shura Council’s Human Rights Committee, led by Dr. Mohammed Ali Al Khuzai.
Both sides underscored the importance of such bilateral discussions to enhance cooperation and address matters related to human rights. The meeting included an overview of the PDRC’s upcoming plans and initiatives, including scheduled visits to specialised care centres, as well as comprehensive inspections of correctional and detention facilities.
Habib highlighted the PDRC’s role in advancing Bahrain’s reforms, noting the positive impact of the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law, the Open Prisons Programme, and the Juvenile Justice Law. She emphasised that these initiatives have not only upheld human rights standards but have also fostered a supportive environment for rehabilitation, reflecting the ongoing efforts of Bahrain’s relevant ministries and institutions, including the PDRC.
