Search, Rescue Centre implements ‘Egypt-10’ exercise

By Sarah Saad

The Egyptian Ministry of Defence’s Search and Rescue Centre carried out ‘Egypt-10’ simulation of an operation to rescue a ferry that sank off the Egyptian coast.

Elements from the Navy and Air Forces took part in the simulation exercise together with representatives of relevant ministries and executive agencies of the Red Sea Governorate and the Egyptian Red Crescent Society.

The experiment featured the implementation of a realistic scenario of the rescue of a ferry that sank with 250 people of different nationalities on board while sailing off the Egyptian coast in the Red Sea.

The Search and Rescue Centre received a distress call from the stranded ferry after it collided into a coral reef. The centre dispatched Augusta helicopter, together with naval vessels to the site in order to handle the accident, in line with the relevant international safety procedures and systems.

“Egypt-10” exercise demonstrates keenness of the General Command of the Armed Forces to co-operate with all state agencies and institutions via implementing practical experiments to train on various scenarios, for the sake of ensuring speedy response in the face of all risks and crises that the Egyptian state may face.
