The European Commission said on Friday that the proposal to impose definitive countervailing duties on imports of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) from China has obtained the necessary support from EU member states for the adoption of tariffs.

This will give the European Commission, which provisionally approved the step in June, free rein to impose tariffs of up to 45 percent on imports of Chinese-made electric vehicles for five years from October-end.
