The United States is destined to find itself in dire consequences for providing arms to China’s Taiwan region, a Chinese mainland spokesperson said on Monday, repudiating a military aid package Washington approved a day earlier.
Once again, the U.S. has seriously violated the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique, Lin Jian, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson told a press conference.
In essence, this action serves to embolden Lai Ching-te and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in their stubborn pursuit of “Taiwan independence” and their provocation of the one-China principle, he said.
Lin said this once again proves that the greatest threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits, as well as the biggest disruption to the current status quo, is the separatist activities of the “Taiwan independence” forces and the support they receive from external forces led by the U.S.
“Taiwan independence” is a dead end, and the U.S.’ insistence on supporting independence through military means will ultimately backfire and result in dire consequences for itself, the spokesperson said.
He urged the U.S. to earnestly adhere to the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques and to cease arming Taiwan in any form.
No matter how many weapons the U.S. provides to Taiwan, it will not shake China’s firm resolve to oppose “Taiwan independence” and to safeguard its national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Lin said.
