International Cooperation Director-General participates in ministerial meeting of UN Peacebuilding Commission

New York, Sept. 27 (BNA): Ambassador Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, the Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participated in the ministerial meeting of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.


The meeting discussed strengthening international and multilateral cooperation to address common challenges and build sustainable peace. It also discussed the role of the Peacebuilding Commission in this endeavour.


Ambassador Al Dhaen noted that Bahrain had launched a series of global initiatives to reject violence, extremism and hatred. She highlighted its commitment to spread a culture of peace and dialogue to reach peaceful solutions to regional and international disputes and conflicts, most notably the initiative of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which was adopted by the 33rd Arab Summit, the “Bahrain Summit” last May, to hold an international conference for peace and to resolve the Palestinian issue, in accordance with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international legitimacy resolutions.


 Ambassador Al Dhaen highlighted the importance of including women and youth in peacebuilding to address their specific needs and ensuring their active participation in conflict resolution efforts.


The countries participating in the meeting affirmed their commitment to ensuring the effective and impactful implementation of the Peacebuilding Commission’s mandate. They stressed the importance of the Commission’s role as an intergovernmental advisory body focused on developing strategic support for international peacebuilding efforts and fostering dialogue among key stakeholders.
