Kazakhstan purchases PCR tests for detecting monkeypox
AKIPRESS.COM – Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health has procured PCR tests for detecting monkeypox in the country, said Deputy Minister of Health Timur Sultangaziev, reported Kazinform.
He stated that the epidemiological situation in Kazakhstan is stable. The primary method of preventing monkeypox in Kazakhstan is through controlling the entry of the disease. The Ministry of Health has installed thermometers at airport checkpoints and border crossings.
Sultangaziev mentioned that all necessary conditions for identifying infected patients have been organized, building on the experience from the COVID-19 pandemic. A clinical protocol for the disease has been developed.
He also noted that monkeypox lacks specific methods of prevention and treatment. The Ministry of Health has issued preventive guidelines for Kazakhstani tourists.
The epidemic, which began in September 2023, has infected 13,700 people on the African continent, with 456 fatalities. The first case outside Africa was reported in Sweden.
On August 15, China tightened border controls to prevent the entry of monkeypox. Individuals entering China from countries with monkeypox outbreaks, who show symptoms or have been in contact with infected persons, must report this to customs upon entry.
