Korotchenko: Azerbaijan defines trends in modern international politics

Azerbaijan is among the countries that determine the trends of modern international politics, Director General of the Caspian Institute for Strategic Studies Igor Korotchenko said, commenting on the upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan, the Russian bureau of Report informs.

The political scientist noted that Russia views Azerbaijan as a strong, effective and responsible state.

“The two leaders will not only sum up their activities over the past period, but will also set new trends and meanings for our bilateral cooperation. Russia views Azerbaijan as a strong, effective and responsible state. We clearly see how Azerbaijan’s international authority is growing after the victory in the Second Karabakh War,” Korotchenko noted.

The expert believes that in addition to political, economic and military-technical ties, energy projects are extremely important.

“I think that Putin and [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev will be able to come to very interesting joint decisions that will work for the benefit of our countries. Understanding what a complex and busy schedule the Russian president has, for him a visit to Azerbaijan is a visit to friends and an opportunity to simply see with his own eyes, at the human national level, Baku, which today is a true pearl of the South Caucasus, combining an ultra-modern appearance with carefully preserved, restored historical architectural relics and monuments of the past,” Igor Korotchenko added.

He also emphasized that the expert community of Russia has high expectations for this state visit of President Putin, adding that Russian-Azerbaijani relations can be set as an example for any modern state in terms of effective, responsible and careful preservation of everything that creates the “living fabric” of friendship and cooperation.

“The impetus that will be given to Russian-Azerbaijani cooperation in all areas will allow the two countries to reach new horizons of development and make a significant contribution to the path of our sustainable development,” the expert concluded.
