BTS’ Suga apologises for riding electric scooter while intoxicated, his licence revoked by police

Suga, a member of K-pop boy group BTS, has apologised after being caught riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. On Wednesday (Aug 7), South Korea’s Yongsan Police Station announced that they were investigating the 31-year-old, who is currently serving in the military as a public service worker, on the charges of violating the Road Traffic Act.

The incident reportedly happened on Tuesday night as Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, was on his way home after drinking.

Hours after the announcement, Suga’s agency Big Hit Entertainment released a statement – providing their account of what had happened.

“We apologise for BTS member Suga’s electric scooter accident. On the night of Aug 6, while returning home after drinking, Suga used an electric scooter while wearing a helmet. After travelling for about 500 metres, he fell while parking. A breathalyser test was conducted by a nearby police officer and Suga was fined and his licence was revoked.

“There was no loss of life or property damage in the incident, and Suga returned home after being handed over to the police. We apologise for disappointing many people due to the artiste’s inappropriate behaviour. As a public service worker, he will receive appropriate disciplinary action from his employer. We will pay more attention to prevent this from happening in the future.”
