At least four people have died from fresh outbreak of cholera in northern Zambia’s Nsama district, health authorities confirmed on Monday.
Roma Chilengi, the director-general of the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI), said fresh cholera outbreak broke out in the district last month and that so far cumulative 103 suspected cases have been recorded with 45 confirmed as positive.
He told reporters that two cases were recorded in the past 24 hours while one was discharged.
According to him, health authorities were active on the ground distributing chlorine and providing other preventive and mitigating measures.
He, however, expressed concern that with the onset of the hot season, the situation may worsen due to water shortages.
