Sadyr Japarov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev hold talks in Tashkent

President Sadyr Japarov and President of Shavkat Mirziyoyev today held talks in restricted attendance and at level of delegations as part of the state visit of President Japarov to Uzbekistan.

They discussed bilateral cooperation issues in a broad range, exchanged views about prospects of trade and economic cooperation, investments, joint projects in energy sector, agriculture, etc. 

Welcoming President Japarov, President Mirziyoyev highly regarded ongoing socio-economic reforms in Kyrgyzstan. Particularly, he noted economic growth, prosperity of industrial production, creation of new infrastructure projects.

“The Uzbek people sincerely rejoice at the success of the brotherly Kyrgyz people. Uzbekistan will continue to support the Kyrgyz people from all sides, just as we need a strong and prosperous neighbor – Kyrgyzstan,” President Mirziyoyev said.

He expressed confidence that the meeting will allow to deeply analyze the progress of the implementation of previously reached agreements and all existing issues, as well as to develop a new agenda for mutually beneficial cooperation.

President Japarov in turn thanked Mirziyoyev for the official invitation to make state visit to Uzbekistan, a warm welcome and special attention to Kyrgyzstan as a whole.

He expressed gratitude for the humanitarian assistance provided to victims of floods in Nookat District of Osh Region.

He noted that the negotiations were very fruitful, they discussed the current issues of Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation, implementation of the agreements reached so far, and jointly planned new plans for the future.

“Kyrgyzstan is ready to further strengthen close friendship and good neighborly relations with Uzbekistan. I believe that the results of today’s negotiations will give a new impetus to the progressive development of our interstate relations,” he said.

“The Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan are neighbors in spirit, loyal friends and strategic partners. In a short period of time, we managed to make a big breakthrough and bring bilateral relations to a completely new level. The issues of state borders have been resolved, joint projects in economy, energy, transport, humanitarian and other areas are being actively advanced, and inter-parliamentary and inter-regional cooperation is gaining momentum. Strengthening of multi-faceted cooperation with Uzbekistan is an undoubted priority of Kyrgyzstan’s foreign policy,” President Japarov said.

The President noted that this is clearly evidenced by the joint statement signed by the parties on the deepening and expansion of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

He noted that the goal set before the governments of the two countries is to double the bilateral trade in the coming years. The governments continue active work on implementation of the agreements reached between the parties. Large joint investment, transport and energy projects are being implemented consistently.

The Council of Cooperation of Border Regions of the two countries is aimed to contribute to further intensification of cooperation between regions, President Japarov said.

Noting Kyrgyzstan’s interest in the early completion of the border demarcation process with Uzbekistan and bringing bilateral relations to the level of alliance, the President reminded of the agreement reached as a result of the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Kyrgyzstan last year – the establishment of the Supreme Interstate Council.

President Japarov expressed interest in further intensification of trade and economic relations with Uzbekistan, increase of bilateral trade and joint implementation of major investment projects.

President Japarov expressed confidence that the governments of the two countries will successfully implement all the agreements, signed agreements and contracts following the results of the previous Kyrgyz-Uzbek business forum.

Among the implemented projects, the President singled out the factory for assembly of passenger cars and agricultural machinery, as well as a factory for production of textile products in Chui region.

He indicated that all the projects, both initiated and implemented, as well as planned, will give a new powerful impulse to the entire complex of Kyrgyz-Uzbek cooperation. In particular, the President noted importance of construction of Kambar-Ata-1 HPP on the Chatkal River, China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway and Chatkal-Tashkent road.

Noting the cultural and humanitarian cooperation, President Japarov pointed out that the Days of Culture of Kyrgyzstan in Uzbekistan, which include a series of events, are aimed at familiarizing the Uzbek audience with the culture of the Kyrgyz people.

The President also noted progressive development of cooperation in education sector. The day before, the Second International Forum of Rectors of Universities in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan was successfully held in Samarkand, dedicated to the state visit.

During the negotiations, the leaders of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan discussed a broad range of bilateral cooperation issues and the prospects of its development. In particular, questions related to the spheres of education and science, health care, transport and logistics interaction, tourism, etc. were discussed.

The parties expressed confidence that the agreements reached will become a bright guide for the two states in achieving concrete results and practical implementation of plans for the near and long-term perspective.
