  • Tesla’s  Entry into the Market of Middle Eastern countries

News reports show Tesla has already made its mark in several Middle Eastern countries, but Saudi Arabia remained off the list due to a long-standing dispute. Tensions date back to 2018 when CEO Elon Musk claimed he had secured funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) for a potential buyout. That deal never happened, triggering investor lawsuits and strained relations between Musk and Saudi officials.

While Tesla is making its way back, the PIF has become a major player in the EV market, backing Lucid Group (NASDAQ:LCID). The fund has provided strong financial support to Lucid, positioning the company as a key competitor in the region.

  • Launch of Tesla also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy for Green Automation

The upcoming launch of Tesla also aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to reduce its dependence on crude revenues. The move is also expected to contribute to the Kingdom’s sustainable journey, with the nation targeting to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060.

Saudi Arabia’s green transition, a key component of Vision 2030, aims to reduce carbon emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2060, through renewable energy, energy efficiency, and carbon capture initiatives.

  • Paving the way to net zero emissions by 2060

Saudi Arabia has taken a multidimensional approach to emissions reduction. The Kingdom has committed to have 50% of its power generated from renewable sources by 2030. Beyond a domestic energy mix transformation, SGI is steering a range of ambitious initiatives that will reduce emissions. These include investing in new energy sources, improving energy efficiency, and developing a carbon capture and storage program.

In the 20 years since Tesla was founded in San Carlos, California, we have grown from a long-shot startup to the state’s largest manufacturing employer and the world’s leading electric vehicle maker.
