October 9 marks World Post Day, which was established to commemorate the creation of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874.
The day aims to raise awareness about the vital role of postal services in daily life for individuals and businesses as well as their contribution to global socioeconomic development.
China’s express delivery sector has expanded rapidly and maintained a momentum of significant growth. The annual express delivery volume reached 132.1 billion in 2023, generating a revenue of 1.2 trillion yuan, according to the State Post Bureau (SPB).

Notably, the postal industry has seen business expansion across the country, driven by improvements in logistics infrastructure.
As of 2023, companies across the postal industry have established a total of 468,000 business outlets of various types, an increase of 34,000 compared to the end of the previous year. The national postal service network expanded to 40,000 locations, while the express delivery service network grew to 228,000.
Data from the SPB shows that as of September 29, the annual national express delivery revenue exceeded 1 trillion yuan this year. Since surpassing 1 trillion yuan for the first time in 2021, China’s express delivery annual business revenue has maintained rapid growth, with the time taken to surpass the trillion mark shortening each year, almost 1.5 months earlier this year as compared to last year’s.
