Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny commended the exceptional performance and professionalism of the country’s air traffic controllers following a sudden surge in flights due to the closure of airspace in several neighbouring countries. Many flights were rerouted through Egyptian airspace, leading to a significant increase in traffic.
Minister El-Hefny highlighted the skill and efficiency of Egypt’s air navigation teams, who managed the situation with ease while maintaining the highest standards of safety and security. He emphasised the vital role air traffic controllers play in ensuring the smooth flow of air traffic and creating a safe environment for both passengers and airlines.
The minister also expressed his gratitude to all civil aviation workers for their dedicated efforts in ensuring passenger safety and their swift response to the influx of rerouted flights from neighbouring airspaces to Egypt’s airports.
In a recent statement, the Ministry of Civil Aviation reassured the public that Egypt’s airspace remains safe and fully operational, despite ongoing regional events. The ministry added that coordination is ongoing with neighboring countries, following the closure of airspace in Jordan and Iraq. Cairo International Airport has raised its alert level in anticipation of possible landings by transit flights.
The ministry urged passengers traveling to Baghdad, Erbil, and Jordan to check their bookings as developments unfold, and promised timely updates on the situation.
