Top seed Sun Yingsha of China advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals at the World Table Tennis (WTT) China Smash in Beijing after beating her compatriot Liu Weishan 11-4, 11-5, 4-11, 11-2 on Thursday.
“We are very familiar with each other and we both played with good form,” Sun told reporters after the match. “Liu Weishan has shown her style too. As the competition goes on, the matches will be closer. I will do my best in every battle.”
Sun’s opponent in the last eight will be sixth-seeded Mima Ito of Japan, who knocked out Kim Na-yeong in five games 11-7, 6-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9.
Chinese qualifier Fan Siqi defeated Sakura Mori of Japan 11-6, 14-12, 11-5 in the round of 16. She will play No. 7 seed Cheng I-Ching of Chinese Taipei next. Cheng came back to beat home qualifier Wang Xiaotong 11-13, 11-7, 11-8, 11-8 in her last match.
