Preparations in full swing for hosting WUF

General Coordinator of the World Urban Forum (WUF), Ambassador Atef Salem, met on Wednesday Ambassador Hamdi Shaaban, Assistant Foreign Minister for International Co-operation, in the presence of representatives of various ministries, the UN-Habitat regional and country offices, and other stakeholders to review preparations for the upcoming 12th WUF, which Egypt will host during the period from November 4-8, 2024.

Discussions covered the organisational preparations, including logistical and technical arrangements. The responsibilities assigned to ministries and relevant bodies were also reviewed during the meeting. The goal is to ensure the success of the forum, in such a way that reflects the esteemed status Egypt enjoys at the international fora.

Ambassador Salem updated the attendees on the preparations for hosting the forum, highlighting the progress achieved in collaboration with the organising company GCM and the Ministry of Defence’s Information Systems Department. Key areas such as guest reception, transportation, airport coordination, and field visits were also discussed.

“The forum will highlight Egypt’s significant advancements in urban development over the past decade, aiming to showcase the country’s successes, boost the national economy, and promote real estate export opportunities,” Salem said.

It is worth noting that the WUF has not been held in the African continent since it was held in Nairobi in 2001. As a major international conference on urban issues organised by UN-Habitat and held every two years, the forum is the second most important event on the UN agenda after the Climate Summit.

Interested participants can register on the official forum website: https://wuf.unhabitat.org/wuf12 before the October 30, 2024, deadline.
