Iran, Iraq sign 14 cooperation documents during Pezeshkian’s visit to Baghdad
The cooperation documents were signed in the presence of President Pezeshkian and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in the Iraqi capital on Wednesday (September 11).
The Iraqi Prime Minister’s office, by publishing a statement and photos of the signing ceremony of cooperation documents, announced that these documents covered a wide range of areas, including training specialist forces, sports and youth, cultural and artistic exchanges and historical monuments, education, media, communications, sending convoys, religious tourism, agriculture and natural resources, post office, social support, training of technical-engineering forces, upgrading the level of skilled labor forces and finally cooperation between chambers of commerce of the two countries.
Apart from visiting Baghdad, the president also visited other Iraqi cities of Najaf, Karbala, Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, and Basra during his three-day visit to the neighboring country.
The Iranian president was accompanied by ministers of foreign affairs, economy, road and urban development, the chief of his presidential office and the president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA).
In a meeting with a group of Iraqi elites, academics, and nomads in Basra on Friday, President Pezeshkian highlighted his determination to pursue the speedy completion of Shalamche-Basra railway project linking the railroad networks of Iran and Iraq, saying that he will also pursue any other measure that would help bring the two neighboring countries closer together.
The visit to Iraq by President Pezeshkian was his first foreign visit after taking office in July 30, signaling the significance of relations between the two neighboring countries.
Iraq is the second biggest destination for Iranian exports with annual trade between the two countries standing at $12 billion.
