Amman, Aug. 29 (BNA): Egyptian Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi announced on Wednesday the launch of the Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace and Security (2023/2028) that aims at deepening ties among the Arab young people and enriching Arab identity and sense of belonging.
The launching came during the opening of the high-level international forum on youth, peace and security in the presence of Jordanian Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.
Sobhi said he is pleased to attend the High-Level International Forum on Youth, Peace and Security held under the slogan (Arab Vision: Youth, Peace and Security on the Global Stage), which came in compliance with the decision of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers No. 1096 and the decision of the Arab League Council No. 887/ 2024.
Sobhi said the forum is meant to bring together member states, Arab youth and sports ministers, young peacebuilders, civil society organizations, international organizations, intergovernmental organizations and experts to promote the youth, peace and security agenda together through active participation in dialogues and activities.
The forum, held at this critical global timing, sends a strong message that Arab nations are peace-loving powers despite attempts by others to ignite hatred, he said.
Speaking about the strategy, he said it is the main framework to enhance and carry out peace and security initiatives led by young people, adding that the strategy provides a platform for dialogue that will enable participants to exchange experiments and ideas and to determine the best ways to enhance the role of youth in peacekeeping and security-building efforts.
He underlined the need to invest in developing the capabilities of youth and providing them with good education and necessary skills to enable them to participate effectively in peace and security efforts, calling for engaging youth in decision-making and supporting youth initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of peace and conflict resolution and spreading the values of tolerance and respect among the various components of society.
He pointed out that this forum addresses a number of sustainable development goals, including eliminating hunger, providing food security and good nutrition, achieving sustainable agriculture, building effective institutions that can be held accountable at all levels and enhancing tools of activating global partnership for the sake of sustainable development.
