Egypt, Germany discuss water and climate change cooperation
Stockholm, Aug. 29 (BNA): Dr. Hani Sweilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Egypt, met with representatives of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in Stockholm.
The meeting discussed regional water issues and Germany’s role in supporting top priority water projects, MENA News Agency reported.
Dr. Sweilam underscored Egypt’s keenness on enhancing partnership with Germany, in light of the two countries’ interest in water and climate change issues.
The minister reviewed Egypt’s efforts to implement projects for rationalising water consumption, upgrading irrigation systems in addition to establishing huge plants for agricultural wastewater treatment.
He emphasised the importance of Germany’s support for the African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation (PACWA) to train African competencies specialised in the field of mitigating climate change impact on water resources in Africa.
The meeting also discussed coordination between Egypt and Germany within the framework of the 29th United Nations climate change conference (COP29).
