Tehran: Construction of high-speed railway construction, and the establishment of joint ventures between Iran and China could open new frontiers of cooperation as the newly elected government under the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian aims to expand strategic partnership with China, a long time trusted partner of Iran.

This proposal was floated by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a senior Iranian lawmaker and chairman of the Iran-China Friendship Association, in an interview with Chinese media giant Xinhua.

Speaking of forging cooperation with China by Iran’s newly formed government, Alaeddin Boroujerdi
said “Iran’s new administration seeks to have good relations with all countries, especially the neighbors, Muslim states and other friendly countries, such as China”.

Reflecting on bilateral cooperation, he said the Iran-China relationship is firm and at a “high level,” highlighting the great potential for expanding bilateral cooperation on the “good basis” of the 25-year Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement signed in March 2021.

Proposing the new dimensions of Iran and China cooperation, Boroujerdi listed some fields for further bilateral cooperation, such as the oil and gas sector, high-speed railway construction, and the establishment of joint ventures.
