Tahya Misr terminal to help raise Alex. port’s classification
CAIRO – The Transport Ministry said the Tahya Misr Multipurpose Terminal at Alexandria port in Egypt was outfitted with the latest operational equipment to deal with the new generation of mega ships, which contributes to raising the classification of the port.
In a statement released, the ministry said the terminal has yards extending over half-a-million square meters and is divided into three stations for trading (containers, general goods, and vehicles)
The terminal has the capacity to handle 12 to 15 million tons of goods annually and receive 6 to 7 ships with large tonnages simultaneously, the statement added.
The length of the terminal’s berths is estimated at 2,530 meters, which qualifies the terminal to receive vessels with large tonnages, as the maximum depth reaches 17.50 meters, the statement read.
