AKIPRESS.COM – A criminal case has been opened against police officers in connection with the death of a 37-year-old citizen in Bishkek, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on August 23.
The duty unit of the Bishkek City Police Department received a message that an unknown citizen was trying to commit suicide at the dormitory of the Kyrgyz National University named after Zh. Balasagyn on August 9.
Two police officers were sent to the scene. The man attempted to flee from the police officers. The police detained him at the intersection of Manas and Zhibek-Zholu Avenues.
“The police officers threw him to the ground, ignoring the man’s pleas about difficulty breathing, and did not stop using physical force against him, as a result of which the citizen died on the spot,” the Prosecutor General’s Office says.
The Prosecutor’s Office of the Pervomaisky district opened a criminal case on causing serious bodily harm against the police officers.
