During the 8 years that it existed, Nanxishan Hospital admitted a total of 5,432 Vietnamese patients. Recalling their stay in Nanxishan, many patients felt deeply moved by the effective treatment and tender loving care they received from Chinese medical staff there. What’s more, the hospital did more than just heal wounds and ease pain; it also soothed the emotional trauma inflicted by the war. No wonder the special bond forged between Vietnamese patients and Chinese medical workers remains an important building block of China and Vietnam’s enduring friendship.
