Kazakhstan bans wheat import
AKIPRESS.COM – Kazakhstan has introduced ban on wheat imports.
Wheat imports amounted to 1.3 million tons in the first half of 2024, which is almost equal to the annual import volume of 2023, while the domestic market of Kazakhstan has sufficient reserves of wheat from last year’s harvest, the Ministry of Agriculture said.
The Ministry predicts a good grain harvest, which will create an excess supply on the grain market.
“In order to protect the domestic market and prevent the grain re-export, the Interdepartmental Commission on Foreign Trade Policy on July 26 made a decision to ban the import of wheat by all modes of transport into the territory of Kazakhstan from third countries and from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union until December 31, 2024,” the Ministry added.
The exception is the transit of wheat through the territory of Kazakhstan, as well as their transfer between member states of the Eurasian Economic Union using the territory of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Agriculture stated.
The order comes into force on August 21 and is valid until December 31, 2024.
