Go Green: Meet the county that delivers clean power to its 126 islands
[ad_1]
Off the coast of southeast China’s Fujian Province is Pingtan County, which comprises 126 islands. Among them, the main Haitan Island, also called Pingtan, is the fifth largest island in China.
Stormy waves have relentlessly hit the volcanic rocks for years, creating the unique sea erosion landform, which has earned it the name “sea erosion museum.”
Residents have never been deterred by the rocky island’s barren environment. Rocks are used to build seemingly plain but windproof and waterproof houses.
Abundant wind resources are efficiently harnessed in the region. Giant windmills standing offshore turn the raging sea breeze into electricity and deliver clean power to millions of households.
