Kyrgyzstanis win record number of medals at Paris Olympics

AKIPRESS.COM – Kyrgyzstani athletes won a record number of medals in one Olympics.

The athletes won 4 medals (1 silver and 3 bronze) so far in the Paris Olympics. Wrestler Meerim Zhumanazarova won silver, while wrestlers Akzhol Makhmudov, Zholaman Sharshenbekov, and Uzur Dzhuzupbekov won bronze.

In its history, Kyrgyzstan claimed 11 Olympic medals, including 1 bronze in Sydney, 3 (a silver and 2 bronze) in Beijing, 3 (2 silver and a bronze) in Tokyo, and 4 (1 silver and 3 bronze) in Paris. 

8 more athletes from Kyrgyzstan are yet to compete in their events (wrestling, running, boxing), with boxer Munarbek Seiitbek uulu already securing a medal: he advanced to the semifinals, where he will face a Bulgarian boxer tonight for a chance to reach the finals.
