Wu Jingyu wishes the best for Chinese taekwondo athletes at Paris 2024
Retired world taekwondo champion Wu Jingyu of China attended the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene’s Greg Laffradi, she sent her best wishes for Team China in the sport.
Wu was a two-time Olympic gold medalist from the 2008 Games in Beijing and the 2012 Games in London. She also won two World Taekwondo Championships and two Asian Games.
Having retired in July 2021, Wu was invited to the 2024 Olympic Games by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). She was the torchbearer in the Olympic village and a member of the competition supervisory board.
Wu said she will definitely watch the taekwondo events and wished the best for Chinese athletes.
China sent a team of six to the taekwondo events at the 2024 Paris Games. Luo Zongshi, Guo Qing, Song Jie and Zhou Zeqi will participate in the women’s 57-kilogram, 49-kilogram, 67-kilogram and 67+kilogram competitions respectively.
Liang Yushuai and Song Zhaoxiang will compete in the men’s 68-kilogram and 80+kilogram events.
