Zhai Jun, special envoy of the Chinese government on the Middle East issue, on Monday held a phone call with Wolfgang Amadeus Brulhart, Swiss envoy to the Middle East.

Introducing the reconciliation dialogue among 14 Palestinian factions in Beijing in July, Zhai said China sincerely hopes that various Palestinian factions will realize national unity and establish an independent country at an early date based on internal reconciliation.

China appreciates Switzerland’s active efforts to implement the two-state solution and is willing to work with Switzerland to continue to make positive contributions to promoting regional peace and stability, he said.

Congratulating and hailing China for mediating the reconciliation dialogue and the signing of the Beijing Declaration, Brulhart said Switzerland shares the same position with China regarding the reconciliation among Palestinian factions.

The various Palestinian factions forming a unified position and speaking with one voice are the prerequisites for realizing the two-state solution and resolving the Palestinian issue, said Brulhart, calling for maintaining communication with China on this issue.

The two sides also exchanged views on the latest developments in the Middle East situation.
