Iran eyes re-exports of goods from Bangladesh
President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Samad Hassanzadeh has said that Iran seeks to use Bangladesh as a platform for the re-exports of its products.
Speaking during a meeting in Tehran with Bangladeshi State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu, Hassanzadeh said that Iran aims to export products which are complete by 80% to Bangladesh so that they will be completed and re-exported to other countries.
He noted that such cooperation between the two countries would require both Iran and Bangladesh to put into effect a preferential trade agreement as well as another agreement on avoiding double taxation signed between them 20 years ago.
Hassanzadeh also referred to the inauguration of Iran’s new president Masoud Pezeshkian, stressing that the two countries need to redefine their trade relations.
The Bangladeshi minister, for his part, said that Bangladesh can provide a route for connecting Iran to the Bengal Gulf, countries such as Nepal and ASEAN countries.
He stressed that problems on the way of money transfer are hindering Iran and Bangladesh from further expansion of economic relations, urging the need for finding new settlement mechanisms.
Referring to his country’s high potentials in producing textile and leather products, he also hailed Iran’s capabilities in producing bitumen, LPG, polyester, petrochemical products, nuts and dried fruits, saffron and carpet, voicing the willingness of Dhaka to import these items from Iran.
