Egypt, US discuss efforts to maintain Sudan’s safety
Cairo, Aug. 1 (BNA): Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, asserted the necessity to maintain the institutions of the Sudanese state and provide relief and humanitarian support to Sudan and the neighbouring countries.
This came during Abdelatty’s reception of Tom Perriello, US Special Envoy for Sudan, at the headquarters of Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
Spokesman for the ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Thursday that Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in Sudan via the Egyptian initiative concerned with Sudan’s political and civil powers, according to Middle East News Agency (MENA).
Both sides discussed regional and international efforts exerted to reach a comprehensive ceasefire in Sudan and ensure access to humanitarian aid supplies, the spokesman said.
Abdelatty reiterated the importance of fulfilling pledges of support for Sudan and its neighbouring countries that receive Sudanese refugees.
Meanwhile, Perriello expressed the US’ appreciation of the Egyptian efforts exerted at different levels to ease the Sudanese crisis, including working on reaching a joint vision between the Sudanese political powers.
