Captain: Chinese team aware women's volleyball will be tough in Paris

China will play the USA, its first opponent in the women’s volleyball event at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, on Monday evening. The competition in Pool A also includes Serbia and host nation France.
The 12 teams have been divided into three pools and will each play three matches during the group stage, fewer than the five required three years ago at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Games. As a result, each contest will matter more in deciding which sides advance to the knockout phase.
“If we want to win at the Olympics, each of us will have to play at the top level, individually and together,” said China captain Yuan Xinyue. “When everybody delivers their best performance, and comes together as a team against our opponents, that is how we’re going to win.”
China beat Serbia to win gold in women’s volleyball at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The USA downed Brazil to top the podium five years later in Tokyo.
