WHO office in Azerbaijan and partners hold symposium related to COP29

As part of preparations for COP29 to be held in Baku this November, the Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Azerbaijan organized a symposium themed “One Health Uncovered: Preparing for COP29 with Intersectoral Insights,” Report informs.

The event brought together local and international partners to understand the One Health approach and its important role in developing sustainable strategies to reduce threats at the human-animal-environment interface.

The symposium proposed a comprehensive framework document for developing sustainable strategies that reduce potential hazards, address the health impacts of climate change and promote resilience in all sectors.

The event highlighted the need for integrated health and environmental policies to combat climate change in line with the COP29 discussions and goals.

Attendants participated in discussions aimed at promoting intersectoral cooperation and developing effective strategies for implementing the One Health principles at the local and global levels.

The One Health Joint Action Plan, which ephasizes the importance of including environmental health in the One Health approach, was launched during COP28. This plan has strengthened the importance of One Health in international climate and health policy dialogues, highlighting the important role of One Health in addressing the multifaceted impacts of climate change.
