2024 Olympic Games set to begin on River Seine in just one day's time

The start of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics is just one day away, and CGTN Sports Scene’s Greg Laffradi provided updates on the final preparations for the Opening Ceremony, as well as the newly-announced flagbearers for China.

For the first time in history, the Opening Ceremony for the Summer Olympics will not take place inside a main stadium, but in full view of the public on the River Seine. Around 6,000 to 7,000 athletes, and several thousand more coaches and other delegation members, will sail down the Seine on 85 barges and boats.

As many as 300,000 spectators are set to watch the parade from temporary stands and along the river banks, with an additional 200,000 poised to do likewise from apartments overlooking the area.

Table tennis superstar Ma Long and artistic swimming team captain Feng Yu will carry the flag for China at the opening ceremony. Ma will be making his fourth Olympic appearance in Paris, while Feng will be competing at the Games for the second time in her career.
