Large sculpture reinterprets popular painting of rural man
“Father” is an artwork created in 1980 that has left an indelible imprint on China’s visual art. Now, the famous oil painting of a rural man has been interpreted as a larger-than-life sculpture.
The new “Father” has been unveiled at the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in Chongqing, standing at 7 meters high and 5 meters wide. A total of 11 years in the making, the sculpture pays tribute to painter Luo Zhongli’s original in intricate 3D detail.
Featuring a wrinkled face, dry lips and an old bowl, both the original and the new sculpture symbolize the tenacity of fathers and the elderly.
