The 2nd Shusha Global Media Forum commenced in shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan on Saturday July20-22, 2024 with the theme of “Unmasking False Narratives: Confronting Disinformation”.

More than 150 foreign delegates from about 50 countries, including news agencies of 30 countries, 3 international organizations and 82 media outlets will participate in the forum being held in commemoration of 149th anniversary of the National Press of Azerbaijan.

President attended the forum and highlighted the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan, explained the policies, actions and initiatives for cooperation, relations, and reconstruction of liberated territories.

President Ilham Aliyev said the reconstruction of Shusha a real a pearl of the Caucasus – as we call the crown of Karabakh, has started.

Highlighting the Azerbaijan’s agenda of broad regional cooperation in the region, President Ilham Aliyev announced willingness of Azerbaijan to expand cooperation for transportation routes across the Caspian through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye to Europe, and with neighbouring states.

Special representative, journalists like Shafag Mehraliyeva from ADA University, Mohammad Reza Pour from IRNA News Agency, Mohamad Al Kadi from Al Jazeera TV, TASS agency, TRT World, The Middle East News Agency, President of the Global Policy Institute, Paolo von Schirach, asked question about policies regarding development of Susha.

It is the first time that the city of Shusha has brought together heads of world’s leading media, journalist organizations, media and communication experts and renowned journalists.

After the opening ceremony on Saturday, the Forum will be followed by sessions.

The forum will feature four panel sessions on “Impact assessment: scoping disinformation,” “Policies and initiatives to build a more resilient society against disinformation,” The impact of artificial intelligence on reality, media and disinformation: Promoting media literacy,” and “Climate movement and media.”

During the panel sessions, officials from different countries, media and civil society representatives, representatives of international organizations and media experts will come together to exchange views and experiences.

The forum participants will be informed about the preparations carried out regarding the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the fight against the impacts of climate change at the country level, as well as the sustainable approach in the restoration and reconstruction works implemented in the liberated areas.

The Forum is scheduled to discuss critical issues of global importance in the media and information-communication fields. World’s illustrious media leaders, experts will deliberate about new tools of journalism and communications in the digital era, digital transformation, media management and sustainable media business models, consumer trends and media literacy in the new media, methods of fighting disinformation and fake news, safety of journalists and other matters.
