Teen e-bike rider arrested for evading roadblock

SINGAPORE: A 16-year-old teenager who allegedly evaded a roadblock and continued to flee on foot after falling off his e-bike has been arrested, said police in a news release on Monday (Jun 3).

The incident happened on May 25, when Traffic Police officers were conducting a roadblock along Guillemard Road at about 2.55am.

The police said a rider of a power-assisted bicycle (PAB), or e-bike, was directed to stop for checks as he was not wearing a helmet. However, he failed to stop, and sped off.

“While doing so, he knocked down a police road barrier, fell off his PAB, and continued to flee on foot,” said the police.

“After a brief chase, the officers detained and subsequently arrested him.”

Police investigations revealed that the teenager possessed duty-unpaid contraband cigarettes at the time. The rider’s e-bike, believed to be illegally modified, was seized by the Land Transport Authority.

Investigations are ongoing.
